Tobie Loomis is an award winning writer, director and producer. She was born in Montreal, Quebec into a traditional Greek family, and the first to attend college, graduating with a BA in Media Communications Studies. While in college she worked as a journalist for Montreal radio stations, broadcasting live coverage of the Grammy Awards from Los Angeles. In 1989 she began producing short films and videos for acclaimed photographer Just Loomis, including projects for K.D Lang, Amy Grant and Patty Griffin.
Since 2000 Tobie has been an active member of Women in Film (WIF) Los Angeles. She is a co-chair of the Emmy winning PSA Production Program mentoring women to develop their craft of filmmaking by creating effective and compelling public service announcements. Her projects have included PSA's for Free Arts for Abused Children, The Dream Foundation, The National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Operation Gratitude. As advisory chair of the WIF International Committee, her work extends into the international film communities where she develops and produces programming including an annual international short film series, educational forums, and co-productions with the American Film Market (AFM). Her panelists have included, Academy Award winning producers, Cathy Schulman for "Crash" and Lawrence Bender for "An Inconvenient Truth". Tobie has also collaborated with Participant Media and created projects for the Nobel Peace Summit/Rome and a PSA for the Darfur Now feature documentary. She has recently joined the Advisory Board at Global Girl Media where girls in underserved communities from the US and around the world are trained to be citizen journalists.
Always challenging conventional boundaries, Tobie believes that the “social cause” and the “creative idea” when working in unison are only empowered by the evolution of technology. She continues to develop her outreach by effectively implementing new and social media platforms to create strong branding and awareness that simultaneously reach and impact millions. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
